Exclusive Interview: Ava Addams (2024)

To celebrate our 20th Anniversary and to kick off the resurgence of our exclusive interview series, Rock Confidential caught up with an icon of the Adult biz – mega-superstar Ava Addams.

Launching her modeling career in 2004 by posing for Playboy, Ava entered the adult film industry four years later and has since amassed nearly 700 mind-blowing scenes.

Ava chats with us about her impressive career, making the decision to work exclusively on OnlyFans, and details some of her favorite rock bands.

It’s an honor and so great to catch up with you Ava! How are things going?

Things have been great – thanks for asking.

I remember reading in an interview a few years ago that you said you were a goth kid in high school. How long did that phase last?

Oh wow. Um, I was goth for about six or seven years so it was a longish phase I suppose. But if we’re gonna be honest I think I will always be a golf girl at heart.

Who are some of the bands you were listening to at the time?

The Cure, Bauhaus, Joy Division, London After Midnight, Depeche Mode, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Sisters Of Mercy, The Cult… all that stuff.

Do you remember the first time you saw any adult material? What was your initial reaction?

Honestly I can’t say that I do, isn’t that awful? You would think since I chose that as a career path that there would be some sort of pivotal moment but there really wasn’t.

Did you have any misconceptions about the Adult industry before you started?

I definitely thought it was more glamorous than what it was. At the time adult actresses were crossing over to mainstream and it seemed like society was maybe becoming more accepting.

Looking back, how do you remember your very first year in Adult?

I only did solo and girl/girl, so it was a lot of fun and I was excited. I always liked girls so it was definitely fun to get paid to do something I enjoyed anyways.

What about your career is the most appealing?

That I get to call the shots and pick what I do and don’t do… and obviously the money is good. I also say that it’s really nice to be able to fill certain fantasies in a controlled safe environment. And also all of us get tested regularly so it definitely feels safer than trusting someone’s word because we have to show each other proof of our tests.

How do you envision your future in Adult? What else would you like to do professionally?

I am exclusive to my OnlyFans now and I’m honestly not sure if I’ll ever go back to working for others. OF made a lot of performers realize our worth and that we were drastically underpaid and under appreciated.

Your YouTube channel is full of some of your favorite other f words: fitness, food, and fashion. What can fans expect from your videos?

I try to switch it up with try-on hauls, top five lists, current events, Q&A‘s and of course cooking with workouts thrown in the mix. It’s a way to show my fans a whole different side of me.

The pandemic has changed everything. How has it affected you personally and professionally?

I really enjoyed the pandemic at first. It was so nice to slow down and not be in a rush all the time. I got to spend more time with the people I love and that was great but then there comes a point where you’re wondering how long it’s going to last and you start missing that human interaction with your friends. And I think I was fortunate living in Texas that things opened up pretty quickly here and I felt like life got back to normal a lot faster than other places. I was definitely concerned for the mental health of a lot of my friends in California.

As an established performer, what are the pros and cons of OnlyFans?

I think the pros are that we are our own bosses, we get to dictate exactly what goes out to the fans, who we works with and most importantly we get to decide how often and when we work. I think the cons is, sometimes when you work for yourself it does get hard to motivate yourself, also because it makes us so available that some people expect you to be available to them 24 hours and that’s just not realistic. Some people get very mad if you don’t answer them but they have to realize there’s literally thousands of them and only one of us and it’s impossible to get to everyone all the time. It’s also very very time-consuming. I don’t think most people realize just how much work it is. I mean I’m sure there’s people that just slap a video here and there but if you want original content and you want to keep your subscriber satisfied you have to put in a lot of work. I also think that people don’t realize how much time we spend curating our social media or doing things to brand ourselves. There’s a lot more thought and marketing that goes behind the scenes that people are really clueless about.

Rock Confidential turned 20 this year, so we’ll be spending a lot of time reflecting on the past two decades. We’ve gotta ask, what were you like and what were you up to 20 years ago?

First all congratulations – that’s amazing! And yes, self reflection is always good and you definitely grow a lot in 20 years. I think I was very selfish in my 20s – well early 20s for sure. I regret not managing my money better and putting off myself for relationships. Luckily I think by my late 20s I had a better grasp on reality and what I wanted and what I needed to do to achieve that.

Who are some of your favorite rock bands?

In no particular order… Guns N’ Roses, Mötley Crüe, Pantera, Alice In Chains, NIN, Jane’s Addiction, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nirvana, Green Day, System Of A Down, Avenged Sevenfold, Slipknot, My Chemical Romance, Papa Roach, Deftones, The Offspring, 30 Seconds To Mars… Geez, I’m sure I’m forgetting a lot but that’s a few.

What music have you been listening to lately?

You know, I’m really not a fan of rock music these days. I just don’t think it’s as good as it used to be. To be completely honest I listen to rap almost all the time with some pop thrown in the mix. If we’re talking about new music… I still adore all the rock bands I listed and all the goth bands I listed!

What was your first rock concert?

The first concert I went to, my parents took me to Cheap Trick.

The musician you would most like to meet is…

You know, I’ve been very fortunate enough to meet a lot of musicians and I think any of the ones that I would have loved to meet have now passed away.

What was the first album you bought with your own money when you were younger?

I believe the first album I ever bought on my own was either Nirvana or Green Day. I honestly can’t remember. I had some before that but I did not purchase them on my own.

What are you up to next?

I always have a lot going on right now. OnlyFans takes up the majority of my time but I also have a couple properties and I’m looking into getting more. As far as adult stuff – OF, and then of course I’m focusing more on my YouTube channel.
